Ulescia Prince, Shelton State Respiratory Therapy Graduate and Former Ambassador
As a working respiratory therapist, Ulescia Prince credits her experience at Shelton State with making her real-world ready. A graduate of Shelton State’s respiratory therapy program, quality instruction and unparalleled opportunities prepared her not only for a potential career, but allowed her to actually secure a job prior to graduation. “They set you up for success,” she notes.Committed to her personal growth and to the mission of the College, Ulescia is also former Shelton State Ambassador. Her experiences at Shelton State helped shape her life and she encourages others to follow her lead in making their Shelton Statement.
In continued partnership with West Alabama Works, Shelton State Community College hosted the fourth annual WOW Career Expo in October of 2018. The goal of the annual WOW Career Expo is to attract youth to careers. More than 4,000 eighth grade students and hundreds of high school students in the West Alabama area attended the event and explored career opportunities for their future.
Along with WOW, Worlds of Work Varsity hosted area high school students while they learned about high-paying career opportunities and met with potential employers.
At the second WOW 2.0, industry connected again with West Alabama students. Through career discovery and interaction with potential employers, students learned more about opportunities available in the West Alabama area. Additionally, students learned about dual enrollment, apprenticeships, and options at the four-year college level.
With events held in both the fall and spring semesters, the College hosted prospective students and families on the Martin and C.A. Fredd Campuses for annual Preview Night sessions.

The Shelton State Alumni Association presented The Comedy of Dr. Allen Mallory on April 22. The event benefitting Alumni Association scholarships for adult students raised closed to $5,000.

Part of Shelton State’s designation as the Community College of the Fine Arts for the state of Alabama, the visual arts department focuses on instruction in art techniques and processes engaging students in creative thinking, self-exploration, and critical evaluation. Courses are designed to provide students with a strong foundation in studio arts and art history. The art program offers experience for students pursuing transfer to a four-year college program, art careers, and/or personal enrichment.
