Shelton State Community College Voice Students Awarded at Competition

William Harpole & Sean Jones at NATS

February 19, 2019 – Shelton State Community College students competed on February 15 and 16 at the National Association of Teachers of Singing (ALANATS) auditions. Of the six competing students, two were awarded during the finals.

William Harpole advanced to the finals in the Third Year Men’s Musical Theatre Division and placed third in this category.

Sean Jones also advanced to the finals in the Third Year Men’s Musical Theatre Division and placed second in this category. Additionally, Jones advanced to the finals in the Third Year Men’s College Division and was the overall division winner.

“We are very proud of these students and their accomplishments,” stated Dr. Christopher O’Rear, Shelton State voice instructor.

Shelton State students joined voice students from all over the state of Alabama in being adjudicated by voice teachers from around the state. Singers were placed into categories according to their level of study and sang for a panel of judges. Those with the highest preliminary scores were passed along to semi-finals and finals. Winners were selected by a popular vote of all participating voice instructors.
