Theatre Tuscaloosa and the Arts Council Present a Festival of One Acts

Festival of One Acts

March 20, 2019 – Theatre Tuscaloosa’s SecondStage and The Arts and Humanities Council of Tuscaloosa present A Festival of One Acts, seven one-act performances, March 27-31, 2019, in the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center located at 620 Greensboro Ave.

 

A Festival of One Acts allows audiences to see seven short plays in one evening. As an official Alabama

Bicentennial event, this “buffet” of theatre celebrates Alabama’s rich cultural heritage with everything from quirky comedy to dramatic satire. The plays explore relationships past and present, race, faith, and football. The plays are intended for teens and adults with some mature language and content.

A Festival of One Acts presents the following one-acts: Great Again, Legends, and Salt directed by Jennifer Guffin, Love & Cheese Toast directed by Tina Turley, Mama & Me and The Blessed Event directed by Dianna Brown Shaw, and Redstone directed by Charles Prosser.

 

The performance dates and times are as follows: Wednesday, March 27 at 7:30 p.m. (World Theatre Day), Thursday, March 28 at 8:00 p.m. (following the Druid Arts Awards ceremony at the Bama Theatre), Friday, March 29 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, March 30 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, March 31 at 2:00 p.m.

 

A Festival of One Acts has a run time of approximately 90 minutes, which includes a 15-minute intermission. Concessions can be purchased prior to the performance and at intermission.

 

The cast includes Jamie Alexander, Drew Baker, Hope Bonitz, Ben Brewster, Kenyatta “Ya Ya” Brown, Arthur Conway, Vickie Davis, Melissa Grantham, Jordan A. Hall, Layla Khan-Hickman, Eli Hollingsworth, Jaiden Hyde, Daniel Maguire, Sophie Outman, Charles Prosser, Allison Upshaw, George Thagard, Ernie Turley, Kathy Wilson, and Bryne Zuege.

 

Theatre Tuscaloosa’s 2018-2019 season is supported by Shelton State Community College, the City of Tuscaloosa, the Alabama State Council on the Arts, The National Endowment for the Arts, Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, Inc., WVUA23, and Tuscaloosa Radio.

Office hours are Monday-Thursday from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and Friday 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Tickets can also be purchased at the door starting one hour prior to each performance.
