Thurgood Marshall College Fund SOAR HBCU Scholars Program

Shelton State Community College is excited to host the Thurgood Marshall College Fund’s (TMCF) SOAR (Seeking, Observing, and Achieving Results) Program from July 13 to July 18, 2025. This transformative experience is designed for rising high school seniors (Class of 2026) who demonstrate exceptional leadership potential and a commitment to academic excellence.

 

TMCF One-Week Residential Camp: July 13 – 18, 2025

Location: Shelton State Community College

*Housing will be provided at The University of Alabama.

TMCF SOAR champions students as they explore and determine their pathway after high school and continues support through All Things TMCF (TMCF Pre-Scholars initiative). SOAR provides a multi-year approach to preparing students for life beyond their K-12 educational experiences.

TMCF SOAR will promote students’ ability to develop the necessary skills for success in college and beyond through an emphasized focus on:

  • Academic and Career Opportunities
  • Professional and Leadership Development
  • Financial Literacy
  • Personal Development
  • One-week residential boot camp at TMCF-member school (HBCU and/or HBCC)
  • Fall on-campus engagement during HBCU festivities (homecoming, fall festival, sporting event, etc.)
  • Virtual workshops on the college application and financial aid process throughout the academic year
  • Virtual summer bridge for students entering college and/or the workforce
  • Placement into TMCF pathway post-graduation: DevCon/National Talent Bank

During the one-week program, 100 participants will reside in one of the dorms at The University of Alabama. Students will participate in seminars, develop team presentations, network with business professionals and HBCU alumni, interact with college students, and participate in workshops on college admissions, financial aid, scholarships, HBCUs, Historically Black Community Colleges (HBCCs), and more.

Current high school juniors (Class of 2026). Eligible students must participate in the program during the summer before their senior year.

The program is FREE to all participants. The program will cover most expenses associated with the program, including housing, meals, materials, supplies, and activities. Travel expenses are not covered by the program.
