What is Ready To Work?

Ready To Work (RTW) provides trainees FREE training in basic skills and abilities required by most leading businesses and industries in Alabama.

The RTW curriculum is designed by Alabama Industrial Development Training (AIDT) to build skills based on demands of local businesses and industries along with a nation-wide growth in technology, computer knowledge and  employment availability.

Successful graduates will receive an “Alabama Certified Worker” Certificate from AIDT as well as an Alabama Career Readiness Certificate from ACT WorkKeys allowing them to compete for jobs in today’s competitive  market.


Admission Requirements:

To qualify for RTW students must earn an 8 on both the reading and math portions of the TABE test. This test will be administered during the Orientation Session held every Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. Students must also have a high school diploma or GED to enter RTW training.

Where are the classes held?

Students may select site and time that best fits their schedule:
Martin Campus
8:30-11:30 a.m. or 5:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Monday - Thursday
Fredd Campus
8:30 - 11:30 a.m.
Monday - Thursday

Classes meet for five weeks.

What kind of training will I receive?

Trainees will receive training in the following areas: Computer Skills, Workplace Behavior, Manufacturing, Job Acquisition, Leadership Skills and Problem Solving.

How do I register?

Information sessions are held every Wednesday morning at the West Alabama Center for Workforce Development on the Shelton State's Martin Campus at 12:00 p.m.  Anyone age 16 and up may call the West Alabama Center for Workforce Development at 205.391.2489 for more information.
